Atlanta has sixteen private airports. Here is how to pick yours.

When people call us for the first time they almost always assume the trip starts at Hartsfield. It can, and there are days it should. But the metro has sixteen airports a private airplane can use, and the closest one to your house is almost never ATL.

The big four

PDK, DeKalb-Peachtree in Chamblee, is our home and the busiest private airport in Georgia. Twelve minutes from Buckhead, twenty from Midtown. If you live north of I-20 it is probably yours.

Fulton County, Charlie Brown Field on the Westside, is the closest to downtown, West Midtown and the stadium district, and it never feels busy.

Cobb County, McCollum Field in Kennesaw, is the answer for Marietta, Acworth and Woodstock when 75 into town is the problem.

Gwinnett, Briscoe Field in Lawrenceville, saves the Suwanee, Duluth and Lake Lanier side of town from the drive down 85.

South metro

Falcon Field sits inside Peachtree City; if you live there it is five minutes away. Newnan-Coweta covers the west side of Coweta County. The Speedway airport in Hampton is the quickest private departure for McDonough and Henry County, and on race weekends it is the only sane way in and out.

When ATL is right

Connecting off an international arrival. Staying at an airport hotel. Meeting colleagues who flew in on the airlines from three cities and continuing together. Hartsfield's private terminal is on the south side, away from the concourses, and it works well for exactly those days.

Does it cost more to leave from somewhere other than PDK?

A little. The airplane lives at PDK, so a departure from Cobb or Gwinnett adds a short repositioning flight, usually ten to twenty minutes of flight time, and it is in the one number we quote you. For most people on that side of town it is worth it several times over in drive time.
