PDK or ATL for private charter?
Door-to-door time usually decides the airport - not the three-letter code on a ticket. If you live in Buckhead, Brookhaven, or Midtown.
PDK is usually the private-ramp default. You avoid the south-side drive to Hartsfield and the airline-terminal campus. For a same-day coastal or Southeast trip on the Epic, wheels-up from KPDK is the pattern we fly most. The private-ramp experience also makes timing more predictable: arrive at the FBO, meet the crew, and walk to the aircraft rather than crossing a sprawling commercial terminal.
That does not mean every Buckhead address has the same answer. Traffic, time of day, destination, and the aircraft available all matter. We use your pickup address and requested departure time instead of treating a neighborhood label as a promise. A short drive to PDK can be the largest time saving in the itinerary, while a south-side passenger may rationally prefer ATL.

Where PDK usually saves time.
Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, and Perimeter: PDK commonly wins door-to-door. The FBO experience is built for private departure, with curb-to-cabin access and no commercial security line. It is an easy choice for a meeting in north metro or a same-day coastal trip.
Alpharetta, Roswell, and North Fulton: PDK is typically closer than ATL’s south campus. Confirm against your exact address; we recommend the field that saves the most clock time. The answer can change with traffic or a different pickup location.
South Atlanta and the airport corridor: ATL may be competitive or better, particularly when the passenger is already nearby. FTY and FFC can also enter the discussion when they cut the drive or fit the aircraft.
Why the field mΛtters
Private flying starts on the ground.
Flight time is only one part of the trip. A shorter ride to the ramp, a simpler arrival, and an airport closer to the destination can outweigh small differences in airborne time. PDK is a general-aviation airport with private FBOs, so the process feels like private travel from the curb onward.
ATL remains a capable field with private facilities, but its scale changes the ground plan. Airline connections, large-aircraft requirements, and international itineraries can make that scale useful. We will not force PDK when ATL is the practical answer, and we will not send a north-metro traveler to ATL just because it is the larger airport.
When ΛTL mΛkes sense
The right answer depends on the mission.
Choose ATL when the trip truly needs the airport: an airline connection, international complexity, passengers already on the south side, or an aircraft that performs better there. Some destinations and aircraft schedules also make ATL the cleaner choice. In those cases, the bigger campus is a feature rather than a drawback.
Other metro fields stay in the mix. Falcon Field (FFC) and Fulton County (FTY) may cut drive time or suit the aircraft better. A good recommendation should survive the drive home as well as the flight plan.
